Is Your Liver Conscious?

Is Your Liver Conscious?

Medical science thinks of the human body as a machine. Anatomists and physiologists have mapped out the structures and functions of nearly all of it; we’ve got a great working knowledge of what everything is and how it should operate. Doctors know that to fix a problem they can troubleshoot for data, and repair or replace the defective parts.

Doctors must then allow the healing energy inside the patient to finish the process, hopefully with positive results.  It’s the standard approach to medical intervention, but the fact is that with any treatment, there’s never a guarantee of healing.

There are a number of interesting and complex phenomena at work inside the human body and unexpected results from medical treatments will occasionally occur.  It’s been documented, for example, that a liver transplant recipient who never much cared for french fries suddenly got wicked cravings for them soon after the surgery.  When the surgical staff investigated the situation they learned that the donor was a guy who frequently enjoyed fried foods.  They began to wonder… could the liver itself cause the cravings and even affect the behavior of the recipient?

There’s something going on here that’s a lot more interesting than the physical nuts and bolts of anatomy, don’t you think?

Was this a case of transplanted intention? An inscrutable example of a consciousness not localized in the brain but alive and active in every cell of the body? Scientists are working to learn just what is at work here, and how tissues in the body respond to our habits, predilictions and behaviors.

A Spiritual Practice

A Spiritual Practice

A spiritual practice, spiritual discipline or spiritual exercise includes any activity that one associates with the cultivation of spirituality.

Spiritual practice can refer to the seeking of an ultimate reality or to a transcendent dimension of the self, an inner journey that leads to the essence of one’s being. Spiritual practices like meditation, contemplation and prayer are used to develop an individual’s inner awareness, and these practices often lead to an experience of connectedness with a larger reality.

Spirituality is often used as a source of inspiration or orientation in life, encompassing a belief in the transcendent nature of the self. This awareness is helpful as a basic pillar of personal growth and healing.

A good place to expand your spiritual practice is to first identify your individual interests. Are you fascinated by history? Want to see books and movies about parenting? Struggling with anger or envy issues? Want to jumpstart your creativity? Concerned about the effects of climate change? Interested in personal integrity? Your interests can lead you to the resources you need for a meaningful spiritual journey.

A peaceful mind – Peace of mind comes with the resolution of emotional problems through non-resistance, non-judgment, forgiveness and acceptance. Spiritual awareness brings the clarity we need to deal with situations in a calm and rational way, and from this mindset the answers we seek appear much more readily. Calm awareness in the face of conflict is a hallmark of spiritual practice.

Making the transition out of this life through the death experience is something we all face, and most people are terribly afraid of it. In light of this fact it would seem that the ultimate goal in life is to cultivate true peace of mind before we die. Could it be any more ironic that we are so highly educated in so many subjects except the ones that offer inner peace?

Inner Intelligence

Inner Intelligence

In his book The Secret of the Ages, Robert Collier asserts that the mind is master and commander of the body because a subconscious “inner intelligence” directs and controls every function in the body.

For example, it knows how much sodium and potassium you need to balance the regulation of the sodium ion pump, a mechanism that controls cellular water content. You don’t need to concern yourself consciously for it to work properly because the task is dispatched on deeper levels of your subconscious mind by the inner intelligence.

The complex proportions of the nutritional elements you require are automatically measured and uptaken to support your every activity and whether you’re chopping wood or sound asleep, the exact amounts of the proper nutrients are factored in to the recipe.

When you stop and consider this, I mean really think about it – it’s absolutely boggling.  What is this “inner intelligence”?

Living beings are equipped with an inner intelligence that supervises, repairs, operates and builds their bodies from the ground up, and it’s at work in every one of the trillions of cells in your body.

According to Collier and others, the subconscious mind directs and controls every function of your biology, millions upon millions of ceaseless inner chores that you’re not even aware of and simply take for granted. What’s more, it always keeps your body moving in the direction of optimal health and healing even when your behaviors or the environment you reside in get in the way.

With this awareness of the subconscious inner intelligence within you, you can create a new and powerful self-image.  You are much more than you think, even more than you can think.  Your body is a universe in itself, made of galaxies of atoms, elements and systems – and mind is the radiating center around which it all revolves.  This is ancient wisdom that’s been taught in schools of self mastery and higher awareness for centuries and now we have modern science to corroborate it.
